Prologue: Origin of Mobius

In the beginning, there was simply 21st century Earth. Everything was pretty much how you & I would see it. There was no roboticizer, no hovercrafts flying around the cities, there were no robots with hyper-advanced AI. There were no anthropomorphic animal humanoids, only the animals that people see every day around them. Humanity was diversed all over the world with different countries of their own. Everyone was different to each other & no one would expect anything to have them stand united for anything. But no one expected the answer whether or not they were truly alone in the universe to be answered sooner than that fateful day on December 21, 2012. In fact when an alien race known as the Xorda arrived to avenge their fallen sentries five to six decades earlier during the Roswell, New Mexico incident, humanity actually wished they were alone or the question was never answered.

The Xorda attacked the major cities first. It was swift & so fast no one had time to react until it was too late. Just recently, humanity had created a program on leaving Earth in massive numbers in case of a disaster that was beyond any control or was impossible to stop. Unfortunately humanity never had the chance to test it. The man leading the project was an elder scientist named Dr. Ivan Kintobor, who moved to the United States at a very young age from what is today the Czech Republic. He had just graduated from college during the Roswell, New Mexico incident but he was present when he & a few other scientists dissected the dead Xorda sentries. They failed to realize that the Xorda sentries had a distress beacon on their ship, along with the fact that humanity had ignored many Xorda spy ships between the 1950's & 1960's, despite the warnings from some civilians.

Ivan Kintobor's grandson, Gerald Kintobor, had just graduated from college when the Xorda attacked. Gerald left on one of the few ships that were prepared when the Xorda arrived & attacked. Ivan chose to remain behind but his fate remains unknown. Many said that Ivan perished when the Xorda dropped their Gene Bombs all over the surface of Earth. Some say that Ivan simply disappeared among the survivors after the Xorda left for their home planet after their sentries found no trace of resistance. The rest say he just simply disappeared without a trace. Either way no one knows what happened to Ivan Kintobor. The ships that left Earth barely managed to get past the Xorda fleet with minor losses, due to the Xorda more concentrated on bombarding Earth's surface.

Unknown to the Xorda, however, humanity did survive despite everything the Xorda did to wipe them out. Because of the now-destroyed governments & collapsed economies, humanity decided to unite as a whole race & form a new government with a new economy & a new capital. GUN & Station Square was born on that day. Also unknown to the Xorda, humanity included, the Gene Bombs had a strange unintentional side effect: the animals' DNA somehow mutated & merged with human DNA, causing the animals to evolve into the sentient anthropomorphic humanoid beings. Over a period of decades, then centuries, the anthropomorphic beings had spread their population all over the planet, becoming the dominate species of the planet & renaming the planet Mobius.

However the peace would not last long. When the humans & Mobians met for the first time, they were curious at first & were close to becoming good friends. That is until racism from both races caught up & sparked conflict. Meanwhile, Gerald Kintobor had spent most of his life in space & continuing to advance technology, pushing human technology forward by more than five centuries. When Gerald & the surviving humans returned to Earth by the time Gerald was in his late 30's, he was surprised to see the massive change to the planet. Earth, now Mobius, had changed to an extremely colorful & strange world full of life. Gerald was also shocked to see the new race that dominated the planet. Nevertheless, he avoided the mistake the humans made by judging the Mobians based on race & welcomed them.

To prevent the Xorda from returning & attacking the planet again, Gerald had commissioned to build a powerful cannon known as the Eclipse Cannon. However when presenting the idea to GUN in the already bustling city of Station Square, GUN disapproved it but had approved Gerald of building the Space Colony ARK. However Gerald had used his remaining wealth to build the Eclipse Cannon, feeling terrible after he & his family prevented the Xorda from attacking Earth, despite the fact that there was nothing they could do at the time due to them being unprepared.

Gerald feared that the descendants of the surviving humans would blame the Kintobor family for nearly causing the human race to be extinct, along with many other losses. Due to his now successful experiments with robots with hyper-advanced AI, he had decided to change his name to Gerald Robotnik just before he became a professor. However he only changed his name only after his newborn grandson was born. The Kintobor family, now the Robotnik family, named the boy Julian Ovi Kintobor, mainly due to the newborn's egg-shaped body. No one would expect Julian to become the worst tyrant in the history of the planet in the years to come.

The years passed & with Professor Gerald's technology passed on to Julian as he grew up, the elder scientist was stricken with grief when he heard that his young granddaughter, Maria, was ill. Gerald tried to find something, anything, for a cure. His answer was found when a race of aliens known as the Black Arms arrived. Gerald, at first, was cautious due to the lessons he & humanity learned after the Xorda attack. But the Black Arms were led by Black Doom, a strange alien being whose age & origins were unknown. Black Doom offered to have his blood be used for a test for the "Ultimate Life Form" if he would find the mystical gems known as Chaos Emeralds.

After a failed prototype of the "Ultimate Life Form" known as the "Biolizard", Professor Gerald moved to create an anthropomorphic hedgehog known only as the top secret project "Project: Shadow". The project was a success with the birth of Shadow the Hedgehog. The hedgehog was known for incredible speed & use of the Chaos Emeralds' powers. However he grew to bond with Maria & wondered what life was like on Earth, or Mobius as it is also called, since the humans were now slowly reclaiming their place as dominant species of the planet. Unfortunately GUN had found out about Project: Shadow somehow & raided the space colony. Maria & Shadow tried to escape through the escape pods but sadly just before Shadow could escape in the pod, Maria was killed by one of the soldiers, pushing Gerald to be maddened with grief.
