How to make line art in GIMP by FirebirdPhoenix87 How to make line art in GIMP by FirebirdPhoenix87
Requested by :icondreamerforlife: & :icontheo-kyp-serenno:.

Since it usually takes me a long while to actually make line art, I was thinking of a quicker way to make line art & finally found a way in GIMP. However these two friends of mine asked me how I made the line art. This tutorial finally reveals the secret.

I tried to upload the file in the original size but Deviant Art rejected it because it's "too big". :frustrated: Forgive me if the text looks too small because I had to resize the tutorial image.

Hope this tutorial helps you guys. :)

Sonic drawing picture drawn by me (Sonic belongs to Sega & Sonic Team).

When I multiply it and then color with the brush, the entire image gets darker, not just the lines. Any help would be greatly appreciated! :D

After I erase a;; the white stuff of my paper and I do the steps to make my line art look like line art.
Where you set it to multiplier and make a background copy and stuff it still doesn't do the dark line art. It still is the same as before. Am I doing something wrong?

Hmmmm. Did you erase the white background & then make a new layer, then set that new copied layer to Multiply? If so, try using the Brush & paint it black or whatever color. If this is what you did, you didn't do anything wrong.

Thanks! this look's really helpful butttt how exactly do you make the line-art in the first place???????? can it be a scan of a clean drawing with very fine-lines? because I don't get exactly how to make the line-art, like am I suppose to use tablet or draw first, use mouse? I know how to do the transparent backround and evrything tho, but I just keep geting stuck on what Im suppose to do first exactly.... Like how exactly did you get the very first picture of Sonic too begin with?

Well I recommend a clean sketch where the lines are thick enough to not be "selected" by the program. I just get rid of the "crap" I don't need in order to make it look "clean".
